Fly into Montpellier, FranceThe retreat officially kicks off at 5pm on Saturday, September 28, 2013. We recommend scheduling your arrival in Montpellier no later than 2pm on that day.
Roquebrun to Montpellier is a 90-minute to 2-hour drive.
We recommend you fly into Paris (or London Gatwick), and then fly to Montpellier, Aéroport Montpellier Méditerranée, (MPL). You can get a flight into Montpellier from these 3 major airports:
IMPORTANT Most flights from the U.S. arrive in the morning at Paris airports. At the very latest, please book your Paris arrival for as early as possible on Saturday morning, September 28, 2013 so that you can make your connection to Montpellier with plenty of time to spare. You may want to come in a day or more early and enjoy some time in Paris while easing out of any effects of jet lag. We have a few recommendations for lodging in Paris. Email me if you're interested in this list. From the Montpellier airport, our top two recommendations are to:
Take the train to MontpellierAlternately, you may choose to fly into Paris and take the High-Speed Train, called the TGV, (Train à Grand Vitesse) into Montpellier.
If this is new to you, we can assist you in these logistics, as my hubby Ken Plattner has lots of experience with train travel in France. Contact us for more details. Let us know if you want to ride in the passenger van we'll be coordinating to the Montpellier airport. The cost is $50 per person each way. Please submit your request as far in advance as possible. You can book your train ticket directly on the France National Railway website. The TGV bullet train from Paris to Montpellier is a 3 hour and 20 minute journey.

Where's Roquebrun?Roquebrun, a small village of just over 500 residents, is located in the Herault department of the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France.
The village is situated on the banks of the Orb River, nestled in the foothills of the Black Mountains (La Montagne Noire), in the Upper Languedoc Regional Natural Park (Parc Naturel Regional du Haut-Languedoc), on the southwestern end of the Massif Central. Alternate airportsNOTE:
We do NOT recommend flying into Toulouse (TLS) unless you plan to rent a car. In that case, you may find you'll need some French language skills to navigate the rental counter and roadway signage. Toulouse is 3 to 4 hours by car to Roquebrun, half of it on toll roads, the other half on scenic secondary roads. Add a few days in Barcelona!Oh, Barcelona!
Barcelona, Spain, in case you didn't know it, is one of THE most amazing cities in the world. It's third only to Paris and London according to official visitor statistics. Many friends who've visited us here in Roquebrun have tacked a Barcelona leg onto one end or the other of their trip, and their trip reports are consistently glowing. Fly into Barcelona instead of Montpellier and you can choose to be escorted to Beziers by my incredibly smart, funny, Barcelona-airport-to-train-connnections-savvy friend Morgan! You may even decided to come early and spend a few days exploring the city together and/or on your own. Email me for full details! |
